Proposed addition to the Dunedin North electorate

Dunedin North MP Dr David Clark says he does not expect the proposed addition of Palmerston, Hampden and Herbert to his electorate to have a major effect on his polling.

That is despite the traditionally conservative voting of the rural community.

Chorus shares struggled at just $1.95 at midday, after Communications Minister Amy Adams announced plans for an independent appraisal of the company's books.

Chorus has rolled out ultra-fast broadband cable in parts of Dunedin and around New Zealand.

Stock had fallen as much as 12% to $1.85 - the lowest point since the company listed on the NZX in 2011.

The Government decided to probe Chorus' finances before making a call on intervening in broadband prices.

ANZ New Zealand has posted an annual cash profit of twelve percent after staff cuts and fewer bad debts trimmed its costs.

Cash Profits rose to 1.44 billion in the last financial year, up from 1.29 billion last year.

Statutory profit also rose 8 percent to 1.37 billion.

The cost cuts came in a period when it shaved 10percent from its workforce to 7400 full time positions.

Invermay issue raising plenty of concern outside Dunedin

Dunedin leaders plan to waste no time in taking their case to Wellington, after a high-powered summit of political, business and tertiary education representatives.

The summit was held to discuss overturning a recent AgResearch move to transfer 85 jobs from Invermay.

And it was clear at a media conference after the summit the issue is raising plenty of concern outside Dunedin.

Residents yet to enrol for local elections have till the end of the week if they want to have their say on the running of the city and region.

The Electoral Commission has warned voting papers for the postal voting election will only be sent to people enrolled by this Friday.

Registrars of Electors have removed more than 70,000 people nationwide from the roll.

Those are people who have changed address and not updated their enrolment details.

Dunedin City Council, Otago Regional Council and Southern District Health Board elections will be held in October.

With less than a week remaining for nominations, Dunedin has just three mayoral candidates.

Election nominations for city and regional councils, and the Southern District Health Board, close at midday next Friday.

Ten candidates have been nominated for the city council, seven for the regional council, and five for the health board.

This morning, Greater Dunedin candidate Mayor Dave Cull, independent Andrew Whiley and Port Chalmers man Kevin Dwyer had been nominated for mayor.

Nearly 2,500 Dunedin local election enrolment packs have bounced back to the Registrar of Electors.

The packs marked "gone, no address" represent 2.7% of the roll total.

Nationally about 70,000(seventy thousand) packs were returned.

The Electoral Commission mailed packs to 3.1m people on the electoral roll at the start of July.

The National Manager for Enrolment Services says if people have moved house and not updated their details, they won't be able to vote.
