Nearly 2,500 Dunedin local election enrolment packs have bounced back to the Registrar of Electors.

The packs marked "gone, no address" represent 2.7% of the roll total.

Nationally about 70,000(seventy thousand) packs were returned.

The Electoral Commission mailed packs to 3.1m people on the electoral roll at the start of July.

The National Manager for Enrolment Services says if people have moved house and not updated their details, they won't be able to vote.

People have until August the 16th to enrol in time to receive their voting papers in the mail.
