A special welcome and "hand over" ceremony was held for the new principal at the Catlins Area School this week.
Opihi College deputy principal Kate Staniford was formally welcomed to the Catlins Area School in a ceremony intended to "pass her over" from one school to another.
A resource consent has been sought to subdivide coastal land at Toko Mouth near Milton.
The pending notified resource consent application was made by Toko Developments Ltd and there will be an official hearing on Monday.
Resource consent is sought to subdivide a 4.6 hectare site at Toko Mouth into nine smaller allotments. Eight of the allotments will be for residential use and the ninth will continue to be used for farming.
Information released by police to the Otago Daily Times shows National Member of Parliament Todd Barclay refused to co-operate with detectives investigating allegations he secretly recorded his electorate office staff.
According to the Police Barclay did not return phone messages from a detective on the inquiry and had a lawyer contact police to say he would not be making a statement. Barclay has responded by saying Parliamentary Services were the legal employer of support staff, and it was his right not to make a statement.
Westport woman Leanne Ryall left her Domett St home Friday morning and hasn't been seen since.
50 year old Ryall is described as five foot, three inches tall, of solid build, with short, wavy, red/brown hair.
She was last seen around 9am on Friday morning walking near the intersection of Derby and Cobden Street, a few blocks from her Domett St home.
Police believe Ryall is still in the Westport area but are not ruling out the possibility that she has travelled further afield.
It's understood a property which recently sold in Clyde St, Balclutha, has been bought by Progressive Enterprises, the Australian company behind the Fresh Choice, Supervalue and Countdown franchises in New Zealand.
The company wouldn't comment when asked by the Otago Daily Times, but released a statement.
Clutha Mayor Bryan Cadogan says he's heard rumours about a new Fresh Choice supermarket in the town, but couldn't comment further.
South Otago police have been busy recently dealing with a handful of unrelated incidents in the town.
Police say in two of the incidents, a car was reported stolen, and nearly $6,000 worth of tobacco was stolen from the Balclutha NPD service station.
A Tokomairiro High School pupil performed a record-setting javelin throw at the Otago Athletics Championships on Saturday.
14 year old Ethan Walker, of Milton, outclassed his competitors by almost 15 metres with a winning throw of 48.72 metres.
The throw was an Otago under-15 javelin record.
Ethan will travel to Sydney to compete in the Australian championships in a few weeks.
Work to strengthen the Hinahina bridge over the tidal Catlins Lake will go ahead after the $1.13million budget for the project was approved by the NZ Transport Agency.
The Clutha District Council says the bridge has deteriorated over several years and was under severe weight restrictions for safety reasons.
The NZTA will contribute 59% of cost to strengthen the bridge while the council would pay the remaining 41%.
The strengthening will allow vehicles as heavy as 44 tonnes to cross the bridge.
