The winner of the New Zealand Gold Guitar Awards is excited about what the future may hold for her.

18-year-old Jenny Mitchell, of Gore, won the senior section with her self-penned song "So Far'".

It was her first time competing in the senior section, having won the intermediate section last year.

This year she won the singer-songwriter, female vocal, gospel and New Zealand song categories at the awards ceremony.

Ms Mitchell now goes on a songwriting retreat to develop her skills and release a single with an accompanying music video.
