Skifields around Queenstown and Wanaka are getting ready for the 2019 season.

Last week's cold fronts brought snow to mountains and ski fields across the area, with Cardrona Alpine Resort opening on Saturday.

But the weekend's wintry blast made for a low-key start to the skiing season.
