Southern Police and emergencies services are at the scene of a fatal crash on Hampden-Palmerston Road, near the turn off to the Moeraki Boulders.

Police were called shortly after 3.30 pm to the crash involving four cars.

One person has died at the scene, and another has critical injuries.

Police say the Serious Crash Unit has been notified, and will be investigating.

The road is currently down to one lane.
