The Dunedin City Council discussed a vision for the city's next 40 years this afternoon.
The comprehensive document has been many months in the making, and is a road map for our piece of the world up to 2050.
Much of the city is mourning the loss of former Mayor, and National Party MP for Dunedin North, Richard Walls who died suddenly at home in Dunedin yesterday.
His council service began at the same time as a couple of other long-serving city fathers who took time to share their memories.
The Council publicly stated the Octagon needed to be cleared by Armistice Day commemorations.
However the Navy says there is not much scheduled to happen for the Octagon, and protesters believe the council has been disingenuous.
The Dunedin City Council are about to discuss a spatial plan for the city looking 40 years into the future.
Media were called to chambers this afternoon for a heads up briefing on the 100 page document, which the council hopes will take the city far into the future.
The days appear to be numbered for Occupy Dunedin, as the DCC begin to show signs of putting their foot down over the campsite in the Octagon.
The Occupiers haven't yet decided if they will go quietly, and Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull says all going well force won't be necessary.
The motorway on-ramp linking South Road to the Southern Motorway was closed permanently yesterday.
Transit New Zealand signs warning of the closure have been in place for the better part of a month.
The organisation says the permanent closure of the on-ramp is part of the 4- laning process on the Southern Motorway.
Drivers filmed by 9 Local News all seemed to be approaching the changed layout cautiously.
The Dunedin City Council have announced a decision to withdraw plans to redevelop the northern side of the Harbourside Zone.
Mayor Cull cites a number of reasons for the move, but says the southern zone has more potential for redevelopment.
A Dunedin student's work is helping Forsyth Barr stadium staff with event management.
These illustrations are part of a project by Otago Polytechnic Interior Design graduate Sara McKenzie, who spent around 100 hours creating a virtual stadium.
Dunedin Venues Management Limited Event Manager, Kaitlin Wolf, says the system McKenzie has created is 'absolutely amazing.
Wolf says it's allowing her staff to more effectively plan for conferences and events around the stadium.
On Monday, representatives from Occupy Dunedin were invited by the Mayor and Chief Executive of the DCC to speak at today's Public Forum.
Representatives took their turn to speak at the meeting - but then they all walked out without giving the Council any opportunity to address their concerns.
This afternoon's meeting of the DCC's Planning and Environment Committee has voted to discontinue the Rideshare Scheme from March.
The scheme has been active for ten years, but the council cites high levels of abuse as one of the main reasons the funding has been cut.
A review found the scheme wasn't effectively achieving its two key objectives of reduced parking pressure and more sustainable travel behaviour.
There has been a low uptake of the scheme, with only 377 people registered, which is 1.3%of the tertiary sector.
