Hundreds of beach-goers flocked to Curio Bay over the summer holidays for the sand, surf, and to find some hidden treasure.

Curio Bay is on the Southern coast in the Catlins district and hosted its annual Big Dig in late December.

Two people have been arrested in relation to methamphetamine supply in Balclutha

Area Response Manager of the Clutha-Taieri district Senior Sergeant Cynthia Fairley, says search warrants were executed this morning.
Two 23-year-old men were due to appear in Dunedin District Court this afternoon on various drug related charges.

Cynthia Fairley says the search warrants were executed by local Police, with the assistance of staff from Dunedin and the CIB.
She says several items of interest were found including drugs, drugs paraphernalia and components of a firearm.

Forest and Bird have named the Kea as New Zealand’s Bird of the Year for 2017.

The competition attracted a record 50,000 votes, up from 20,000 last year.

Unions are pleased with the decision made by New Zealand First and its leader Winston Peters last night.

Just before 7pm Peters announced New Zealand First would go into a coalition with the New Zealand Labour Party.

This afternoon Jacinda Ardern announced which MPs will have cabinet positions, David Clark and Clare Curran are among the names.

Jacinda Ardern addressed parliament tonight in a victory speech thanking Bill English for his hard work, even though New Zealand First negotiations with National have concluded.


Wednesday 18th October, 2017

Police have today released audio with Bill English in which he recalls a conversation with former MP Todd Barclay about secret recordings.

The police investigation began after Mr Barclay's former electorate staff member Glenys Dickson complained Barclay had secretly recorded her private conversations.

The release has been made on the day Winston Peters and NZ First hold a meeting to decide who to form the next government with.
