The University of Canterbury Student Volunteer Army returned to Kaiapoi recently, aiming to leave a lasting legacy with trees.

Formed after the 2011 earthquakes, the Canterbury students were joined by a new chapter of volunteers from Waimakariri for a major project.

Unions are pleased with the decision made by New Zealand First and its leader Winston Peters last night.

Just before 7pm Peters announced New Zealand First would go into a coalition with the New Zealand Labour Party.

This afternoon Jacinda Ardern announced which MPs will have cabinet positions, David Clark and Clare Curran are among the names.

Jacinda Ardern addressed parliament tonight in a victory speech thanking Bill English for his hard work, even though New Zealand First negotiations with National have concluded.

Fonterra shareholders have chosen to not go through the Self Nomination process this year for the company board.

The process, where farmers can stand as a candidate for the Board with the support of 35 different shareholders, closed last Thursday.

John Monaghan, Brent Goldsack and Andy Macfarlane were announced last week as the Independent Nomination Process candidates.

All three candidates were nominated by the Fonterra Board after being recommended by the Independent Selection Panel.
