A collection borne of frustration with the amount of waste generated by the fashion industry has garnered national recognition for Dunedin-based designer, Fiona Clements.

The Otago Polytechnic Bachelor of Design graduate has been selected as a 2012 finalist in the Miromoda Fashion Design Awards in Wellington.

Her third-year collection, 'Chimerical Conundra', was pieced together using fabric offcuts sourced from Dunedin clothing stores.

Clements says she hopes the recognition she is gaining will encourage consumers and designers to think more about creating and purchasing sustainably.
