Solutions to the annual rubbish problem in the student quarter are being sought, after furniture from flats was dumped on footpaths around North Dunedin in recent weeks.
While a Dunedin City Council inspection of the student area in December last year found the streets mostly clean and tidy, another inspection last week found furniture, rubbish and mattresses dumped on footpaths.
The DCC has spent eight and a half thousand dollars in recent weeks removing twenty six truckloads of waste from the campus area.
The University of Otago is already providing rubbish skips at eleven different locations for thirteen days each year.
Its now considering further steps to improve the rubbish situation in North Dunedin, but it's not known whether that will mean extra skips.
