The West Coast have had a fire call of a different sort recently — one where people are invited to be fire volunteers for their local communities.

The co-ordinated event saw every fire station from Karamea to Haast, and inland to Springs Junction, Moana and Kokatahi, open their doors to encourage new volunteers.
