West Otago is to get its own steampunk group, called the Dragon's Lair.

The group will be launched this weekend with a Steampunk Fashion Show Extravaganza in Tapanui.

While Oamaru is the recognised home of Steampunk in New Zealand, an event held in Tapanui last year attracted large numbers.

One of the Tapanui group’s founders, Vicki Yarker-Jones says the group will have monthly get-togethers and attend events around Southland and Otago.

The show will raise money for Dunedin designer Michelle Webb to take her creations to the World of Wearable Arts competition in Wellington.
