Clutha-Southland Member of Parliament Todd Barclay has announced he will not seek re-election at the general election later this year.

Barclay has been embroiled in controversy over allegations he secretly recorded the conversations of one of his Gore staff members.

Barclay made his announcement after meeting senior National Party members this morning.

On the streets of Queenstown and Winton today, the response was mixed.
