The consumers price index is up slightly, having risen 0.3% in the last quarter.

Higher housing-related prices are being credited for the small increase, along with more expensive holiday packages.

That's been partly offset by lower vehicle licensing fees.

Vegetable prices have also contributed to the end result, with costs up 14%.

The weaker New Zealand dollar has influenced prices for petrol.

Overall the CPI has risen half a percent in the last year.
