Almost 3,000 submissions have been received on a proposal for marine-protected areas along the South-East Coast.
The South-East Marine Protection Forum’s proposal sought suggestions of sites for possible inclusion in a network of protected areas from Timaru to Waipapa Point in Southland.
Forum Chair, Maree Baker-Galloway, says she wasn't surprised at the high number of submissions.
An independent analyst has been engaged to provide a summary of the submissions.

The real estate market in the southern region is being described as very busy by the real estate institute.
The organisation's spokesperson says property values in South Otago have risen considerably in the past 12 months, despite a recent dip.
And the new median property price for Dunedin is $300,000.

A Balclutha woman is grateful her two cats and turtle are still alive after the house she was living in caught fire.
Tossie Liebenberg says she was on her way back to Balclutha from Milton when her daughter told her about the fire at home.
Residents gathered to watch as smoke streamed from the roof of the two-storey brick house on Barr Street.
Two fire appliances from the Balclutha Volunteer Fire Brigade attended the blaze.

Thousands of children lined the streets of towns around the lower South Island to get a glimpse of the jolly man in a red over the weekend.
Annual Santa parades were held in Dunedin, Invercargill and Balclutha.
And it's a timely reminder to parents that it's not long until Santa and his elves have to get to work.

More than 200 people gathered in the Tokomairiro district at the weekend for an educational celebration.

Today is the day when New Zealand police officers formally acknowledge their colleagues who've died on duty.
