A season of open days are to be held at 'an historic Canterbury station.'
'Terrace Station' was the home of runholder, politician and reformer, Sir John Hall. The station was established around 1850, and is soon to be opened to the public.

Two faithful servants of Ashburton, the Ashburton County Council building and the nearby Methodist church hall, have been farewelled.
The buildings are to be demolished to make way for a $51.6m civic centre and library.

Hundreds of people flocked to downtown Ashburton last week to get a bargain at the annual Ruralco Instore Days.
Similar to an urban mini field days, there were a variety of exhibitors on site, showcasing their wares and offering instore specials to Ruralco members during the two day event.

Sponge rolls, steamed puddings and wool garments were on show in Ashburton last week as the Mid Canterbury Federation of Women's Institutes competed at their annual Federation Cup Day.
It's nearly 70 years since the local ladies catered for the Ashburton leg of the British Lions rugby tour of New Zealand.

The heritage value of Hakatere Corner has been recognised with a blue plaque from Historic Places Mid Canterbury.
It's part of what was Hakatere Station, with its historic stone cottage and old cookhouse, all of which have been restored.

Ashburton has held one of its biggest citizenship ceremonies, with 59 people from around the world, publicly declaring their allegiance to New Zealand.
The Ashburton Trust Event Centre hosted the ceremony yesterday, which is the final stage of the citizenship journey.

Book Week at Tinwald School in Ashburton got off to a spectacular start this week, with parachutists dropping out of the sky.
Two members of Skydiving Kiwis dropped in yesterday morning to the cheers of the students.

Rippa rugby teams from around Mid Canterbury met recently at a primary schools tournament in Ashburton.
Rippa rugby is a non-contact version of the game, where primary school age boys and girls rip off removable tags off each other, instead of slamming each other to the ground.

Music students at Mid-Canterbury's 'Mount Hutt College' enjoyed some extra tuition recently, courtesy of visiting members of the 'Royal New Zealand Air Force Band.'
The band played an 'afternoon concert' at the school in Methven, taking time to chat with 'aspiring musicians' after the show.

The 64th annual New Zealand Ploughing Championships were held over the weekend at Chertsey in Mid Canterbury.
Competitors had a few practise days before the big event, which attracted the nation's top ploughing men and women.
